AG Murrill's Louisiana Bureau of Investigation arrests man from New Orleans for distributing Child Sexual Abuse Material through an online messaging application

Agents with Attorney General Liz Murrill's Louisiana Bureau of Investigation arrested a man from New Orleans for Child Sexual Abuse Material and Sexual Abuse of an Animal.

The Louisiana Bureau of Investigation began investigating a Cybertip associated with someone distributing Child Sexual Abuse Material through an online messaging application. The tip came from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Through the course of the investigation, LBI Special Agents identified the account holder as 26-year-old Darrin Jackson Mahler, of Music Street in New Orleans.

On May 15, Special Agents executed a search warrant at the residence and located Darrin Mahler.

Mahler was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Orleans Justice Center on the following charges:

  • 2 Counts of 14:81.1 E(5)(a) -- Child Sexual Abuse Material involving children under the age of thirteen -- (Felony)
  • 4 Counts of 14:89.3 -- Sexual Abuse of an Animal -- (Felony)

This arrest was through our Orleans Metro ICAC Task Force. The agencies that assisted us on this case were the New Orleans Police Department, the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office, and the Kenner Police Department.

Mahler's bond has not been set yet.

The investigation continues.
